Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO) was created by lead scientist Greg Asner of the Carnegie Science Institute, Stanford University. Through their advanced Earth imaging technology, novel data analytics, and technical training of next generation scientists CAO’s mission is to make scientific discoveries, support conservation, and galvanise action to protect the environment.

Mustard Design Agency were initially commissioned to redesign CAO’s existing website in time for the launch of their new airborne system (ATomS). However, following a rigorous analytical preproduction stage which involved an audit of both their digital presence and the organisations objectives, our role evolved into an overhaul of their entire digital presence and strategy.

The first and most important tasks at hand were to develop CAO’s mission statement and to understand how the organisations digital presence could aid them in achieving their goals. Working with their core team we then broke down the organisations content, developed a hierarchy that catered for all user groups and implemented a smart filtering system that could be applied to all digital content. This filtering system integrated a global tagging system that has enabled both their team and audience to break down content in a much clearer way.

Following a successful launch the website, that received global praise, we delivered bespoke Social Media workshops at their research centre and are currently providing ongoing consultancy to develop their Social Media strategy.
